Noel Tovey is an inspirational Australian performer and activist who it must firstly be noted, danced at Val's Coffee Lounge, with Val Eastwood.
Noel Tovey's incredible life story is recorded in his autobiography Little Black Bastard in which he records his journey from the slums of Carlton to the stages of London. Noel Tovey has had an illustrious career in the arts as a performer, theater director, gallery owner and choreographer. Mr. Tovey has also made significant contributions to the arts scene in Australia such as choreographing the indigenous welcoming ceremony at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Noel has also been an advocate for indigenous and LGBTI rights. Recently he spoke at the launch of federal government's LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care strategy, remarking on the remarkable gains that have been made since the days of his imprisonment in the 1950s.
